On-Device AI Journaling: An Offline Setup Guide
Set up LugaLog’s on-device transcription and AI, test the workflow offline, and understand which optional features still need a connection.
What on-device AI means
On-device processing means the transcription or analysis runs on the phone you are using. In LugaLog, core transcription and AI organization use models on your iPhone. Your recording does not need to be sent to a remote AI service for those operations.
Getting a model onto the device is a separate step. Model downloads require an internet connection and storage space. Once your selected models are available, you can use the core workflow offline.
Set up before you leave a connection
- Install LugaLog from the App Store and check your iPhone’s compatibility.
- Follow onboarding to select and download the transcription and AI models you want to use.
- Allow microphone access when you want to record.
- Record a short, ordinary sentence and confirm that you can read its transcript and use the relevant processing feature.
- Check the model status in Settings if a download or operation has not finished.
The models available to you and their processing speed depend on your device. Plan a short test using the actual model selections you will use later.
Try an airplane-mode test
After setup, turn on airplane mode and make a new entry: “This is my offline test. I want to remember to bring a notebook tomorrow.” Check that the recording saves, transcription finishes, and analysis can run. Close and reopen the entry to make sure you know how to find it.
If a step does not work, reconnect and check that its model download completed. Try another short sample before recording a long entry. Restore your normal connection when the test is finished.
What still needs the internet
Downloading models, installing or updating the app, App Store purchases, sending issue reports, and syncing an iCloud or another cloud folder involve network services. These are separate from processing your journal on the phone.
A local export folder and an iCloud folder have different behavior. Choose the one that fits where you want your files to live, and see the privacy policy for optional reporting and storage details.
Make the workflow fit your phone
Long recordings take more work to process than a short note. Keep the original entry so you can correct transcription or analysis errors. For everyday capture, one concrete thought is often enough to make a useful log.
